Yamamoto Masao
¥33,000
Photographer Yamamoto Masao, who deepens the philosophy that "humanity is a part of nature," and ceramic artist Koichi Uchida, who draws out the primordial power of clay. Their creative resonance has culminated in the art book Kawa (River)—a quiet yet definitive response to traditional Japanese aesthetics.
A ceramic plate handcrafted by Uchida is embedded in the cover, materially anchoring the serene world depicted by Yamamoto and lending it even greater depth. To reproduce the texture of the silver gelatin prints dwelling on Yamamoto's photographic paper, carefully selected materials and high-quality printing were employed, finished with traditional Japanese bookbinding techniques.
With every page, the craftsmanship of the artisans reveals landscapes so pure they feel cleansing to the soul. The act of holding and opening this book is both an appreciation of the pinnacle of Japanese craftsmanship and a singular meditative experience—as if surrendering oneself to the eternal flow of a river.
Size: H297mm × W210mm Binding: Japanese traditional binding, in a case with an embedded ceramic plate by Koichi Uchida Publication: 2011 Note: Signed by the artist
