Kiyomizu-dera

¥8,800

A photographic collection reimagined from a contemporary perspective, documenting a decade of work by photographer Kazuya Sudo within the grounds of the World Heritage site, Kiyomizu-dera Temple.

The collection captures the expressions of the Buddha emerging from faint light, backed by layers of history and human emotion. Sudo weaves a physical contrast between the Buddhist statues—crafted by human hands to mark the passage of eternal time—and the fleeting, unrepeatable moments of the natural world. This work serves as a mirror to the nature worship deeply rooted in the Japanese psyche since before the arrival of Buddhism; it is an attempt to visualize the invisible presence of "prayer."

As the title "gleam" suggests, this book quietly illuminates the wordless emotions sleeping in the depths of the viewer’s heart. By awakening faint memories and thoughts before they even take shape, the experience invites us to re-examine what "prayer" truly means to each of us.
